Sapphire and diamond earrings, inspired by a parure of Queen Marie-Amélie, wife of Louis-Philippe Bonaparte, stolen from the Louvre Museum in Paris. They are a superb piece of jewelry made in France, in the shape of a teardrop or pear, surrounded by diamonds set with 4, 6 or 8 prongs.

The earrings are part of a parure in gold, Sri Lankan sapphires, and diamonds belonging to Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense. This parure consists of a tiara, a necklace, and this pair of earrings. Louis Philippe, King of the French from 1830 to 1848, intended this set for his wife. He had acquired it in 1821, when he was still Duke of Orléans, from Hortense de Beauharnais, daughter of Josephine. The set was probably altered and reassembled at that time, at least in part.

Marie-Amélie is wearing this jewelry in her portrait by Louis Hersent in 1836.
It also coordinates with two small brooches and one large one. The sapphires are surrounded by diamonds set in gold mounts. All the links of the necklace are articulated, revealing the great technical perfection. The patron, as well as the artist (or artists, given the

This collection is a precious testament to Parisian jewelry. It was purchased by the State in 1985 from the former collection of the House of Orléans and was exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris, in the Apollo Gallery on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
